Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations

Reappointments

1. The Officers of the Governing Body recommend to the Governing Body that it reappoint, for a period of three years, the following members of the Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations:

• Ms. Janice R. Bellace (United States)
• Ms. Blanca Ruth Esponda Espinosa (Mexico)
• Mr. Bernd von Maydell (Germany)
• Mr. Edilbert Razafindralambo (Madagascar)
• Mr. Miguel Rodriguez Piñero y Bravo Ferrer (Spain)
• Mr. Jean-Maurice Verdier (France)
• Mr. Budislav Vukas (Croatia).

New appointments

2. In order to fill three of the seats vacated by Ms. Al-Awadi (resigned), Sir John Wood (resigned), Professor Livshitz (deceased) and Mr. Uribe Restrepo (resigned), the Officers of the Governing Body recommend to the Governing Body that it appoint the following persons as members of the Committee for a period of three years:

• Mr. Anwar Ahmad Rashed Al-Fouzeih, Professor of Law, University of Kuwait, Doctor of Law (University of Montpellier); Lawyer [Kuwait, 1958];
• Ms. Laura Cox, QC, Queen's Counsel; Chair of the Sex Discrimination Committee of the Bar Council [United Kingdom, 1951];
• Mr. Sergiy Petrovitch Mavrin, Assistant Dean, Faculty of Law, University of St. Petersburg, Professor of Labour Law, Doctor of Law (University of Leningrad) [Russian Federation, 1951].

3. The Governing Body will no doubt wish to invite the Director-General to convey its gratitude to Ms. Al-Awadi, Sir John Wood, and Mr. Uribe Restrepo for their work on the Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations.

4. The Director-General has received requests from the International Federation of Commercial, Clerical, Professional and Technical Employees (FIET) and the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom to be represented by observers at the meeting.

5. The Governing Body may wish to authorize the Director-General to invite the above non-governmental international organizations to be represented by observers at the meeting.

in the Public Service in the Context of
Structural Adjustment and Transition
(Geneva, 14-18 December 1998)

6. The Director-General has received a request from the International Alliance of Women to be represented by an observer at the meeting.

7. The Governing Body may wish to authorize the Director-General to invite the above non-governmental international organization to be represented by an observer at the meeting.

Meeting of Experts on Ambient Factors at the Workplace
(Geneva, 27 January-2 February 1999)

Composition

8. At its 271st Session (March 1998), the Governing Body decided that this meeting should be attended by five experts nominated after consultations with governments, five after consultations with the Employers' group, and five after consultations with the Workers' group of the Governing Body.

9. The Director-General now submits the following nominations:

Mr. E. Khambula (South Africa), Deputy Director, OHS, Department of Labour;

10. The Governing Body may wish to approve the above nominations.

11. The Director-General has received requests from the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom to be represented by an observer at the meeting.

12. The Governing Body may wish to authorize the Director-General to invite the above non-governmental international organization to be represented by an observer at the meeting.

15. The Governing Body may wish to appoint its representative, who will also chair the above meeting. In accordance with the established practice, the appointment should be made from among the Worker members of the Governing Body.⁽¹⁾ The representative will chair the meeting.

The last such appointment, made at the Governing Body's 271st Session (March 1998), was that of Mr. Arbesser-Rastburg (Employer member) who was appointed to represent the Governing Body at the Tripartite Meeting on the Impact of Flexible Labour Market Arrangements in the Machinery, Electrical and Electronic Industries (Geneva, 26-30 October 1998).
