Executive summary report on Myanmar labour force, child labour and school to work transition survey 2015

The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security and the Central Statistical Organization of Myanmar conducted a labour force, child labour and school-to-work transition survey (LF-CL-SWTS) from 1st March to 31st March 2015, with the financial and technical support of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The survey covered 23,425 households throughout the country, covering 1,468 enumeration areas (EAs) as delineated in the Myanmar Population and Housing Census of 2014.

Opportunities to leverage income generation in marginalized villages: Labutta and Ye townships

This research accessed the economic potentials and critical livelihood bottlenecks in selected village tracts in Labutta and Ye townships, identified sectors/sub-sectors/value chains that offer economic potentials and income generating opportunities for household beneficiaries in the targeted areas and to provide recommendations on appropriate value chain projects, their modalities and approached for implementation and key aspects to ensure that they generate the necessary livelihoods and income to improve the ability of households to provide for their basic needs, including education of children.

Needs Assessment of Educational Institutions in Yangon

The ILO has initiated the Myanmar Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (MyPEC), which aims to address child labour in Myanmar through a multifaceted approach that includes collection of national level data, awareness raising, capacity-building, and policy formulation and development. As part of the programme, ILO will implement pilot interventions in selected communities in Dagon Seik Kan, Ye, and Labutta Townships in 2016. The pilot programmes will comprise of education and safe work for youth and livelihood services tailored to children and their families based on their needs and socioeconomic background, with a particular focus on increasing participation in education.

Knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) study on child labour in Yangon, Ayeyarwady Region and Mon State

The Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP) Study has been conducted to determine how various stakeholders behave and act with regard to child labour as a societal issue in Myanmar. The research aimed to identify factors that contribute to the awareness and high prevalence of the practice of child labour with the objective of developing appropriate awareness raising, advocacy and direct interventions.

Internal Labour Migration in Myanmar: Building an evidence-base on patterns in migration, human trafficking and forced labour

This report presents the results of a survey conducted in mid-2015 among 7,295 internal labour migrants across all 14 states/regions in Myanmar. The respondents were interviewed about jobs in 13 industries in the private sector, including construction, mining, agriculture, manufacturing, fishing, forestry, domestic work and others. Analysis of the survey data points to patterns in the recruitment, migration, working and living conditions among respondents, as well as indicators of abuse and exploitation imposed on workers by employers and recruiters.

Rapid Assessment on Child Labour in Hlaing Thar Yar Industrial Zone in Yangon, Myanmar

This Rapid Assessment intended to capture data on the living, working and education status conditions of child labourers in the Hlaing Thar Yar Industrial Zone to inform the design of child labour prevention and elimination interventions for industrial zones. It also aimed to gather the perceptions of different groups about child labour, the effect of prior programmes for the elimination of child labour, and the attitudes of employers and local authorities to possible programme interventions.
