Cultivation of ginger represents a major cash crop for smallholders and a source of income for individuals in rural areas, such as in South Shan, where the majority of Myanmar’s ginger is grown.

    The garment sector in Myanmar is one of the vital industries that supports the economic development of Myanmar and provides many job opportunities for the country’s workers. The sector is now estimated to employ a range of between 350,000 and 450,000 workers, 90 per cent of whom are women. The latest list from Myanmar Garment Manufacturer Association indicates that 518 factories are currently operational in the country.
