Women’s entrepreneurship development

Validation Workshop on the National Assessment of Women’s Entrepreneurship (WED) Framework Conditions in Myanmar

The workshop is convened to present the findings of the National Assessment of Women’s Entrepreneurship Development report for Myanmar and discuss the draft recommendations for improving the support ecosystem for women’s entrepreneurship. This workshop is co-hosted by the International Labour Organization and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.

Supporting women’s entrepreneurship development is an important means to promote job creation, inclusive and sustainable growth and women’s economic empowerment.  However gender-based structural barriers limit women’s ability to achieve their full participation in entrepreneurial activity. In order to unleash the potential of women-owned enterprises in Myanmar, it is important to examine where these failures exist, and to take actions to remedy them.

The ILO has a dedicated National WED Assessment methodology which has been applied in over 30 countries around the world. By assessing a set of framework conditions, the aim is to support national stakeholders in Myanmar to identify key, locally adapted and strategic recommendations to improve the environment for the promotion of women’s entrepreneurship development and women-led businesses in Myanmar.  The National WED Assessment for Myanmar is a joint project between ILO and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.

This validation workshop is co-hosted by the International Labour Organization and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.  The purpose of the workshop is to present the findings of the draft National Assessment of Women’s Entrepreneurship (WED) Framework Conditions in Myanmar and provide an opportunity for Tripartite Constituents and other key stakeholders to discuss the draft recommendations for improving the support ecosystem for women’s entrepreneurship.
