Meet the finalists of the 1st ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call

The Winner of the ILO Skills Challenge Innovation Call has been announced! From hundreds of applicants, the Domestic Worker Center of Zimbabwe has been selected as the winner of the first edition of the Call.

Moreover, Top 2 ideas from each region were selected as semi-finalists. Scroll down to see who was choosen!

The winner

The Domestic Worker Center (Domestic Workers Association, Zimbabwe) proposes to empower domestic workers with skills that respond to their current working world. Read more

The finalists

Gap Identification System Learning Environment (Technical Institute for Training and Productivity, Guatemala) is an online system that helps users identify and close skills gaps by designing optimal learning pathways and providing them with the necessary resources to get certified. Its main beneficiaries are deported migrants and young people who are outside the education system. The project is expected to reach around 150 thousand Guatemalans per year. Read more
Innovative Clusters Governance (Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry), offers advice and support to Small and Medium size Enterprises to design and implement tailored training programmes for their employees. The project is being piloted in 116 learning companies with 600 learning employees. Read more

Scaling Dual Training through Social Franchising (Ánima Bachillerato Tecnológico, Uruguay), proposes to replicate the dual training model implemented by Ánima, including transferring knowledge and methodologies, to other public or private educational organizations and institutions. Read more

SUGECO Agribusiness Innovation Hub (Sokoine University Graduate Entrepreneurs Cooperative, Tanzania) is a youth agribusiness incubator that promotes youth engagement in agriculture and agribusiness value chains. 750 youth and women have benefitted from the project pilot phase. It is expected that 1500 additional beneficiaries will be reached and 100 agribusiness enterprises will be formed and managed by youth by the end of the year. Read more 

The semi-finalists

Promoting Highly-Skilled Workforce and Sustainable Enterprises (MIESES Global, Spain) supports small businesses by encouraging their active participation in innovation and skills development processes while building excellence and sustainability as strategic values. The project’s approach has been validate with a group of 40 businesses from different regions and will be piloted in collaboration with business associations in Spain and the Americas, as well as with two universities and a vocational training centre. Read more

ProAbled Online Academy (Lebanon) provides training and employment support to build capacities of persons with disabilities (PWDs) through work readiness, soft skills and entrepreneurship training, and career guidance. It also trains HR teams in companies and universities on inclusion at the workplace. The project aims at providing online training to 500 HRD practitioners and PWDs in Jordan and Egypt in the coming two years. Read more
The Heritage Ambassador Programme (National Skill Development Corporation, India) aims to equip persons from local communities of heritage sites with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform as accredited tourist guides. Eventually, they will be linked to tourism aggregator websites, where travellers can hire these certified guides directly. Around 1000 NEET and people in vulnerable situations (a quarter of whom would be women) will benefitted by the project in its first year. Read more

Virtual Reality Skill Lab (Blink 42-41, North Macedonia) is a simulation and capacity building training programme for labour market integration. It targets young people who are in secondary education, as well as young people who have entered the labour market but are looking for ways to upskill or reskill.  Read more
Virtual Reality for Waste Management Training (Qutoof, Jordan) uses Virtual Reality (VR) to provide training in waste management, in particular on how to deal with hazardous situations, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Read more
