ILO Career Guidance Package and Mobile Phone App “ILO-Huong nghiep” aims to improve young people’s access to career guidance services - to make the right career choice - .
Hanoi, Viet Nam, 2 Oct 2020 - To narrow the gap between traditional training and the rapid changes of technology in the context of I.R 4.0, a mobile phone application was developed based on the ILO’s Career Guidance Package for Viet Nam -developed for young people (ages 14 to 19). The tool was developed using Garner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences to help students discover their own interests, aptitude, and potentials.
Counsellor Mr. Ivan Nesterov on behalf of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, representatives of national constituents, universities, schools, NGOs, and enterprises participated in the launching event.
The launching event was initiated by attractive opening remarks from of Ms. Valentina Barcucci, Labour Economist of ILO/CO-Hanoi. She mentioned the Lenin’s famous quote “Study, Study and Study Again” mentioned about 100 years ago, the quote still resonates with generations of students, not only in the Russian Federation but also in Viet Nam and is often used to motivate people to study in any situation and at any stage of their lives, it also highlights the importance of career guidance for youth to choose a suitable education pathway.
The launch was followed by in-depth technical discussion on experiences in implementing career guidance in provinces, and upcoming planned activities to be carried out by all participants. A highlight of the discussion, was the intervention made by a representative from MOVI company, who shared the enterprise’s increasing attention to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and the special care they have vis-à-vis their workers and their families -career guidance for workers’ children was the reason why they joined the event.
Through the wide use of this App, students are expected to understand the world of work and being able to prepare their own career development path, as well as to identify suitable career options after high school. The tool also help to gather opinions, engage parents and family members and facilitates the role of teachers. The tool is more effective when used in combination with counselling from teachers or specialized personnel at school level. In the next development phases, the application will be improved with new features and updated content.
