Preparation and submission of manuscripts to the ILR

  • Unsolicited articles are welcome and are considered on their merits and in the light of the overall programme of the Review. All manuscripts are subject to scholarly review and, if accepted, to editorial revision.
  • Manuscripts may be submitted as email attachments in English, French or Spanish (if translated from another language the original should also be provided). They should be between 7 000 and 10 000 words, with a 100-word abstract.
  • The preferred form of citation is the inclusion in the text, within parentheses, of the author’s last name, year of publication and, if applicable, page number(s). The corresponding references should be provided in an alphabetical list at the end of the text. Any notes should be numbered consecutively throughout the article, except those in tables and figures.
  • The list of references should include: for books, author's last name and initials of given name(s), year of publication, title of book (in italics), place of publication and publisher; and for articles, author's last name and initials of given name(s), year of publication, title of article (within quotation marks), title of periodical (in italics), and volume, issue and page numbers.
  • Tables should be numbered consecutively and presented separately at the end of the text. Diagrams and figures must be provided in a format (e.g. Excel) that can be used for final type-setting. No text should be included within diagrams. Tables and diagrams should bear a descriptive title and any notes should be numbered.
  • Authors must observe the usual rules and practices regarding the reproduction of copyright material in their articles, assuming responsibility for obtaining permission where appropriate.
  • All submissions should be accompanied by a statement that they have not already been published, and that they will not be submitted for publication elsewhere without the agreement of the Managing Editor. Upon acceptance for publication, authors will be required to return a signed Exclusive Licence Form.
