The initiative seeks to increase both the employability and wages of the working poor.This initiative is a part of a global ILO-H&M partnership, which draws on the company’s considerable expertise in providing training to its workers.

    The International Labour Organization (ILO) sees disability management (DM) as crucial to supporting workers whose employment is threatened by illness or accident and bringing people back to work. However, despite the widespread adoption of DM, comparative international research among private companies in this area is minimal.

  9. Implementation of the labour force survey in Yemen: Public-Private Partnership

    The ILO, with financial support from Silatech, applied its international technical expertise to build the capacity of the Yemen Central Statistical Office (CSO) in order to establish a sustainable Labour Market Information System (LMIS) to generate regular, high-quality labour market data that meets international standards. The LMIS also serves to enhance the capacity of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour (MOSAL) to analyse and disseminate comprehensive data to support the ministry’s activities in labour-market monitoring, policy-oriented analysis and policy formulation.

  10. TAQEEM Fund for youth employment evaluation (Phase I & II) - A partnership to promote results-based monitoring and evaluation for youth employment in the MENA region: Public-Private Partnership

    Taqeem (meaning “evaluation” in Arabic) has been implemented in two phases. The first phase worked with 15 youth employment organizations and initiatives reaching approximately 15,000 young people a year as part of a competitively selected Community of Practice (CoP) to improve their capacity to measure and monitor the impact of their programmes. This was achieved firstly through “Evaluation Clinics” which taught CoP members the key steps for impact evaluation and equipped them with enhanced, low-cost, high-impact monitoring and evaluation tools and small grants. The development of a web-based knowledge sharing platform and dissemination campaigns supported the reporting of successes and challenges to stakeholders and raised project profiles. Finally, organizations with positive results developed and conducted randomized control trail studies to show the impact of their programmes.

  11. Improving labour market outcomes for young women and men: Public-Private Partnership

    The ILO’s Youth Employment Programme carried out a global systematic review of youth employment interventions. The aim of the study is to support policymakers and practitioners with evidence-based recommendations on what works to effectively support youth in the labour market. With financial support from the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie), the review analysed the impact of skills training, entrepreneurship promotion, employment services and subsidized employment interventions.

  12. Building capacity for social compliance of investments in African agriculture: Public-Private Partnership

    The partner in this PPP, AATIF, is an investment fund that emerged through a public-private partnership initiated by the KfW Development Bank on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Deutsche Bank. It aims to realize the potential of Africa’s agriculture for the benefit of the poor. AATIF pursues a private sector approach addressing the specific needs of the agricultural sector in a market-oriented way, while its social and environmental management system and strong governance structure with an independent compliance advisor ensure a positive development impact.

    In the late 1990s and early 2000s various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaigns emerged to fill the gap created by a weakness in relevant ‘hard laws’ and their implementation. Currently, a marked move towards more ‘traditional’ hard law and industrial relations approaches is leading to profound changes in labour market conditions and governance. These are changes that can bring vertical and horizontal chain reactions throughout the global production chain. A better understanding of these consequences is essential to improve the chain and facilitate equitable growth and development.

  15. Know About Business in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt): Public-Private Partnership

    The ILO adapted its Know About Business (KAB) programme, which is a set of training materials for entrepreneurship education, to bridge the pre-start gap that students in the oPt face before entry to the labour market with information to develop entrepreneurial skills and prepare students and trainees not only to establish their own businesses, but also to work productively in small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

  16. Know About Business (KAB) in Saudi Arabia: Public-Private Partnership

    The ILO entrepreneurship education programme, Know About Business (KAB), draws on ILO’s successful experience in the field. The KAB training methodology develops entrepreneurial competencies among young people and the particular knowledge needed for self-employment and the creation of micro and small enterprises. Since 2009, the KAB programme has been introduced into vocational, secondary and higher education in approximately 50 countries and translated into 22 languages. In the Arab region, the programme has successfully been implemented in Syria, Yemen, the occupied Palestinian territories, Oman, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon.
