Three Days Training of Trade Unions in Construction Sector

The objective of the training was to build capacity of trade unions in construction sector to take up intervention on HIV and AIDS among the informal workers.

ILO organized a three days training programme for the trade unions in construction sector from 29 June-1 July 2009. The objective of the training was to build capacity of trade unions engaged in construction sector to take up intervention on HIV & AIDS among the informal sector workers.

37 participants from eight unions representing different states of India. (Delhi, Haryana, West Bengal, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Mumbai, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Kerala and AP) participated. The training involved basics of HIV/AIDS, STI and component of policy and workplace interventions, role of unions in HIV/AIDS and orientation to an ongoing HIV intervention amongst migrant workers in Delhi. Participants also developed their plan of action, which were presented and discussed in the last session, chaired by Mr.S.K.Srivastava, Additional Secretary, MOLE.
