Multi-stakeholder Technical Consultations on FPRW in cotton growing areas in Telangana

In partnership with the Labour Department, Government of Telangana, the Promoting fundamental principles and rights at work in the cotton supply chains project organized Multi-stakeholder Technical Consultations on FPRW in each of the selected districts of Telangana.

In partnership with the Labour Department, Government of Telangana, the project organized Multi-stakeholder Technical Consultation on FPRW in Warangal Rural, Jogulamba Gadwal, Nalgonda and Adilabad districts of Telangana state in India. The consultations were organized starting from July till September, 2019 reaching out to nearly 200 key officials and other stakeholders like Trade Unions, farmers, CSOs, experts, child protection committee members among others.

The objective of the technical workshop was to improve the understanding of the participants about the tenets of the four pillars of FPRW including the issues of forced labour and child labour, and its applicability in cotton growing field, thereby promoting integrated approach for improving livelihood of small and marginal farmers and workers associated with it and making cotton more sustainable.

The opportunity was utilized to receive inputs from the participants to understand the grass-root level requirements for the project to design intervention plan for the district. The participants discussed and undertook group work to discuss the key issues and challenges, possible strategies and proposed next steps.
