ITC- Turin consultative workshop on promotion of rural youth employment in Afghanistan

A new course on private sector development in fragile settings through value chains, targeted at the staff of the Office of the Chief Executive of the Government of Afghanistan, took place in New Delhi recently.

A new course on private sector development in fragile settings through value chains for the staff of the Office of the Chief Executive of the Government of Afghanistan took place in mid-April this year. This is one of the activities organized by the training arm of ILO – International Training Centre - with the support of the ILO New Delhi office and in close cooperation with VV Giri National Labour Institute of India.

During this five day training course, participants applied the principles and phases of value chain development for decent work (sector selection, value chain analysis, intervention design, and implementation) in situations of fragility. The training contributed to the design and implementation of market driven value chain development projects using a participatory approach; and it apprehend the techniques for market systems facilitation, and appreciates the differences (and benefits) between facilitation and direct delivery. Colleagues from VV Giri shared case studies and lessons learnt in the Indian context.

The course builds on ITCILO’s expertise in delivering training courses that are targeted specifically at situations of fragility, and will benefit from the experience of the fragile states desk at ITCILO in working specifically in Afghanistan and with Afghan constituents through the project “Promoting Rural Youth Employment in Afghanistan through Entrepreneurship Education and Vocational Training“.
