Inauguration of Training Programme on Engraving on Brassware in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India

The ILO is partnering with Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India on Skills Development Initiative in Clusters. An inauguration of the Training Programme on Engraving on Brassware is being organized by Kaushal Vikas Samiti, the implementation committee of SDI at local level in Moradabad. Participants would include representatives from government departments from National, State and local levels, local representatives of trade unions and employers organizations, institutions and other civil society organizations.

The ILO is partnering with Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India on skills Development Initiative in Clusters, particularly in providing technical assistance towards the consolidation of methodologies and operational frameworks in the selected clusters : Brassware (Moradabad, Utter Pradesh), Glassware (Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh) and Domestic workers (National Capital Region, Delhi). A pilot project in each cluster, while taking into account its specific context and needs, has been operating under the guidance of an Implementation Committee which is comprised of key local stakeholders, including the representatives of governments, employers, workers and training institutions.

In Moradabad, though centuries old cluster with traditional manufacturing techniques had no formal training curriculum/material available for some important processes such as “engraving”. Training curriculum/modules and related competency standards were developed and approved by National Council for Vocational Training for trainings to be conducted under the SDI’s Modular Employable Skills Development. The Industrial Training Institute, Moradabad, an approved Vocational Training Provider, will be conducting a training on “engraving”. An inauguration of the Training Programme on Engraving on Brassware is being organized by Kaushal Vikas Samiti, the implementation committee at the local level in Moradabad.
