Azerbaijan: the National Assembly approved ratification of ILO Convention on OSH and Working Environment No.155
On 8 February 2023, the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan approved ratification of the ILO Convention No.155 on Occupational Safety and Health and the Working Environment, through the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan, of 01 February 2023.
The approval for ratification was preceded by national consultations of the Government and social partners – Confederation of Trade Unions and National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers).
The ILO has provided technical assistance and promoted awareness-raising, conducting a number of workshops, seminars and individual meetings with the Government, social partners and relevant agencies, including the National Assembly. The issue of ratification of the ILO Convention was discussed at the last meeting of the National Tripartite Committee on Economic and Social Affairs, with participation of the Government, social partners and the ILO NC in Baku.
It is worth noting that, in June 2022, the 110th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) of the ILO adopted a Resolution on the inclusion of a safe and healthy working environment in the ILO’s framework of fundamental principles and rights at work (FPRW).
The resolution also declares that the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981 (No. 155) and the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187) shall be considered as fundamental Conventions.
The Convention will enter into force in Azerbaijan one year after the instrument of ratification is registered by the Director-General of the International Labour Office.
