Filipino domestic workers

Kasambahay handbook: Everything the Filipino domestic worker wants to know

The handbook is a reference tool for domestic workers and other users who seek to have a basic understanding of the issues and vulnerabilities that domestic workers face, and describes available and evolving policy and legal instruments, facilities and services available in relation to registration, social security coverage, skills-acquisition, information access and useful networks for the sector.

Domestic workers in the Philippines or “Kasambahay” have played an important role in Filipino households for generations. Many have not had schooling. They have not had the opportunity to acquire knowledge or access information on their basic rights as provided by law or on social services and support mechanisms to which they are entitled.

The Kasambahay handbook brings together the seeds of empowerment of domestic workers through legislation, awareness raising, sector mobilization, capacity-building, and development of standards enforcement tools such as model employment contract.
