Indigenous peoples share a distinct relationship to their lands and their indigenous knowledge systems and practices of protecting the environment are vital.

The indigenous peoples segment of the ILO 24-Hour Global Tour Manila featured ancient calligraphy and traditional poetry of the Ambahan Ancient Calligraphy and poetry from Mindoro and a unique indigenous cultural dance of the Binuwaran Dance Troupe from Kalinga. The dance depicts a message of peace and unity. Gong instruments play in unison and dancers from different tribes move as one.

2019 is not only the ILO Centenary but also the 30th Anniversary of the Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention, 1989 (No. 169).
