Revitalize Agriculture: Leveraging Opportunities for Food Security and Livelihood was a plenary session at the 43rd National Conference of Employers (NCE). Director Khalid Hassan of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Office for the Philippines was the main speaker at the session on 24 August 2022.

The world’s population increase and the demand for food have outpaced the world’s food supply. Disruptions in global supply chain, particularly in agribusiness, has exacerbated the food shortage problem. Many Filipinos depend on agriculture as the main source of livelihood, albeit in the informal sector of the economy.

The session talked about emerging issues in the agricultural sector on informal employment, working conditions, climate change and resilience, and how sustainability of food supply production can help in preserving livelihood and generating more jobs for the society.
