    Through the International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC), the International Labour Organization has contributed to the Philippine Program against Child Labor an essential tool that combines knowledge management, collaboration, social networking, and programme management into one.

  2. Direct interventions set to end child labour in Northern Samar

    Guided with the results of the baseline survey, the Northern Samar Child Labor Committee along with local officials planned and designed interventions on child labour. These interventions included action programmes and direct services focused on education, health, skills development, and psycho-social aspect including child labour monitoring and integrated service delivery.

  3. Partnerships inked on entrepreneurship and skills training for youth

    The International Labour Organization (ILO), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Technical Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will jointly implement the training for disadvantaged youth in Masbate, Antique, Maguindanao and Agusan del Sur from September 2011 to June 2012. The training targets a minimum of 2,400 out-of-school youth in the four provinces.

  4. Training held for Maritime Inspectors PHL gears up for MLC, 2006 enforcement

    Adopted in February 2006 by the ILO, MLC, 2006 served as a response to the global nature of workers’ employment in the maritime industry to comprehensively address the working and living conditions of seafarers and to set out standards for decent work for seafarers.

  2. President Aquino Reaffirms Support to Youth Employment on International Youth Day

    The International Youth Day celebration in the Philippines titled KA JAM or “Kabataan: Jobs and Alternatives to Migration” was held last 12 August 2011 at the SMX Covention Center in Pasay City. With President Benigno S. Aquino III as Keynote speaker, the event also marked the culmination of the United Nations’ International Year of the Youth. In his message, President Aquino reaffirmed the government’s important role and duty to equip the young people with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as well as provide the opportunities to achieve that success.

    Jason (not his real name), wishes he has more time to play. However, unlike children of his age, he struggles to balance schooling and work to help provide the needs of his family. At the age of 12, he works for a charcoal manufacturer where he spends five hours per day, four times a week after attending school. He started working when he was 6 years old.

    Teachers and supervisors from public high schools were trained on teaching entrepreneurship to their students. The Millennium Development Goal Fund (MDG F) Joint Programme on Youth, Employment and Migration through the International Labour Organization (ILO), conducted the Training on Entrepreneurship held in May 2011.
