Press release | 24 April 2012

Manila (ILO News) - The International Labour Organization (ILO) is to launch its annual report on the state of labour markets worldwide and the progress in crisis-recovery processes. The “World of Work Report 2012: Better Jobs for a Better Economy” is for release on Monday 30 April 2012.

The report and all associated material and information are embargoed until 07:01 a.m. on Monday, 30 April (Manila time).

The new study examines how different countries have performed since the start of the global crisis through the prism of the quantity and quality of jobs.

It also examines the effects of fiscal austerity and labour market reforms carried out in some countries, particularly in the EU. And it discusses why employment goals, which are so prominent in the policy discourse, have all too often been neglected in policy practice.

In addition, it explores the social implications of the crisis, including a “social unrest index” covering over 100 countries, as well as intergenerational poverty and the role of social policies in the crisis-recovery in both developed and developing countries.
