ILO to issue annual report on global employment trends and jobs crisis

The International Labour Organization (ILO) will issue its annual Global Employment Trends report (GET) against the background of a lingering jobs crisis and the prospects of a further deterioration of economic activity.

MANILA (ILO News) – The International Labour Organization (ILO) will issue its annual Global Employment Trends report (GET) against the background of a lingering jobs crisis and the prospects of a further deterioration of economic activity.

The report, “Global Employment Trends 2012: Preventing a deeper jobs crisis”, offers the latest global and regional information and projections on several indicators of the labour market, including employment, unemployment, working poverty and vulnerable employment.

It also presents a number of policy considerations in light of the new challenges facing policy makers in the coming year.

The Global Employment Trends 2012, along with other public information material, will be under embargo until 07:01 Manila time on Tuesday 24 January (23:01 GMT on 23 January). An advance electronic copy of the report and some associated media material will be available on request.

An embargoed press briefing will be held at the United Nations in Geneva at 10:00 on Monday 23 January (17:00 Manila time). Participants will include the ILO’s Employment Sector Executive Director José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Moazam Mahmood, Director of the ILO’s Employment and Labour Markets Analysis Department, and Ekkehard Ernst and Steven Kapsos, ILO Senior Economists. Video coverage of the press conference as well as video interviews (TV studio and ISDN line) with the authors of the report will be available for broadcasters. The Global Employment Trends report is a yearly publication of the Employment Trends unit of the ILO Employment Sector.
