Better Work Indonesia: Improving capacity of HR and compliance practitioners in the Indonesian garment industry

ILO to share its lessons learnt in rebuilding and reconstructing Aceh and Nias

After more than seven years, the struggling economy of Aceh province has recovered from being shaken by a devastating earthquake and tsunami in 2004. This province at the farthest west of Indonesia has kept growing since then, with a rise in job opportunities and an improvement in the welfare of the people. Significant changes are taking place in Aceh.

ILO to launch campaign to improve productivity and competitiveness of small and medium-sized companies in Makassar

To assist SMEs to be more productive, competitive and sustainable, the International Labour Organization (ILO) will conduct a workshop entitled, “Effective Ways, Tips and Tricks to Achieve High-Productivity in SMEs”, on Tuesday, 6 November, at Grand Clarion Hotel, Makassar. The Makassar launch is a follow-up to the national launch which was held in Jakarta on 1 November.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) make a major contribution to growth and job creation in Indonesia, providing 60 per cent of employment opportunities for both women and men. The key to sustainable economic development also lies in the development of SMEs that are competitive, resilient, and can continue to grow, even when market conditions are difficult.

Planning for more and better jobs in the construction sector in Indonesia

The Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration hosts a National Workshop at Kementerian Tenaga Kerja dan Transmigrasi headquarters in Jakarta on 10th of October to discuss and review the achievements of the Government of Indonesia - International Labour Organization’s Local Resource Based (LRB) infrastructure works programmes undertaken in Aceh and Nias over the past seven years.

Launch of the Indonesia Decent Work Country Programme 2012 - 2015

The Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) for Indonesia 2012 – 2015 will be launched on Wednesday, 19 September 2012, at the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, Jakarta. The DWCP 2012-15 serves as the mid-term ILO programming framework for the work of ILO in Indonesia with full engagements of Government, workers’ and employers’ organization as the tripartite constituents of the ILO.

Assessing trade in services and employment in Indonesia

Services are an important part of Indonesia’s global trade and thus have a significant impact on the domestic labour market and employment. This applies especially to employment generated through services exports, which grew at a moderate rate in the 2000s. Amounting to only slightly more than 10 percent of the value of total exports and imports, both exports and imports of services grew close to the same rate as commodity trade.
