To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ILO, the ILO Jakarta Office has introduced and launched its ILO 100’s icons for Indonesia: Nusa and Tara, a young man and woman of human standing banners representing Indonesia in February. The names of Nusa and Tara were taken from the other name of Indonesia: Nusantara (a unified region).

Nusa and Tara are also the symbol and representation of the energetic, creative and skillful Indonesian youth. They are also the symbol of the important role of youth in the future, contributing to sustainable development of the country with will, perseverance and innovation.

“The representation of Nusa and Tara is in line with the Future of Work theme which is the centerpiece of the ILO’s activities to mark its Centenary. They are also the reminder about the importance and relevance of issues related to future work and youth in the coming of demographic bonus for Indonesia,” said Gita Lingga, the ILO’s Communications Officer.

Wearing the attributes of ILO 100, each of them holds a message board carrying various relevant messages of the ILO 100 from, among others, occupational safety and health, globalization, social dialogue, youth employment, skills development to the rights to organize, automation, child labour, equal rights and labour migration.

Throughout the year of 2019, Nusa and Tara will be used for all events and activities linked to the celebration of the ILO 100. The celebration also marks the Indonesia’s 69 years journey with the ILO.
