ILO Conference on Wages, Work and Trade: the Future for Pakistan

The ILO hosted a two day conference on “Wages, Work and Trade: The Future for Pakistan” attended by over 100 representatives of the federal and provincial government, international buyers, employers’ organisations, workers’ organisations, civil society groups, diplomatic partners, development agencies.

Mr Suhail Aamir, Secretary, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development presented a key note address. The conference sessions covered minimum wages, wage setting and competitiveness, data and measuring progress against the sustainable development goals, women and the world of work and the way forward for wage policy, economy and trade. The final session was led by former Minister of Commerce, Mr Humayun Aktar Khan, the Additional Secretary of the Punjab Labour Department, Mr Ahmad Fasih of the Ministry of Commerce and Dr Akbar Zaidi.

The event was organised by the Labour Standards in Global Supply Chains project, with the support of the Federal Republic of Germany.
