Uzbek cotton is free from systemic child labour and forced labour

Almost two million people are recruited every year for the annual cotton harvest in Uzbekistan. The country has succeeded in eradicating systemic forced labour and systemic child labour during the 2021 cotton production cycle, according to new ILO findings.

Preventing and Remediating Child Labour in the Garment Supply Chain
COVID-19 may reverse years of progress against child labour, including in the garment industry and supply chain. To support effective due diligence against child labour in the industry, the ILO’s Child Labour Platform (CLP), the Centre for Child Rights and Business, and industry partners will launch the report "Supplier Guidance on Child Labour for the Garment Industry". ILO – Ferrero partnership aims to eliminate child labour in hazelnut harvesting in Turkey
20 November 2020
Ferrero is supporting the ILO to implement a 40-month project In Turkey to contribute to the elimination of the worst forms of child labour in seasonal agriculture in hazelnut harvesting.

Next steps to end child labour in global supply chains

A major conference takes place this week in the Netherlands that aims to set out the next steps in ending child labour in global supply chains. ILO Director-General Guy Ryder took part in a panel discussion at the conference, which has been organized by the Dutch government in collaboration with the ILO, the Global March Against Child Labour and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.

Taking next steps to end child labour in global supply chains
The Dutch Government is convening this conference together with ILO and the Global March against Child Labour. Companies will meet with governments, CSOs and employers’ and workers’ organizations to share best practices, discuss challenges and lessons learned for better due diligence and policy to bring child labour in supply chains to an end.

Child labour and human trafficking remain important concerns in global supply chains

New estimates of child labour, forced labour and human trafficking in global supply chains are revealed in a report compiled by the ILO, OECD, IOM and UNICEF – members of the Alliance 8.7 partnership on child labour, forced labour, modern slavery and human trafficking.
