Open Dialogue on Women with Disability – Equality at Workplace

The dialogue aims to create an open dialogue to enterprises, BREC’s members, trade unions, women’s unions, DOLISAs, DOETs, TVETs, DPOs and other social partners to have a broader and deeper view about employment opportunities and equality at workplace for women with disabilities in Vietnam as well as identify solutions to improve inclusion for persons with disabilities at the world of work.

Estimated 7 million of persons live with disabilities in Vietnam, equivalent to 7.8% of the population. Approximately 80% of PWDs in urban areas and 70% in rural areas depend on their families, relatives and social allowances. However, there is gap and inequality between men with disabilities and women with disabilities. Women with disabilities face significantly more difficulties - in both public and private spheres - in attaining access to adequate housing, health, education, vocational training and employment, and are more likely to be institutionalized . They also experience inequality in hiring, promotion rates and pay for equal work, access to training and retraining, credit and other productive resources, and rarely participate in economic decision making.

Ho Chi Minh city, 22 March 2016, in collaboration with VCCI and BREC, ILO organizes an open dialogue on WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES - EQUALITY AT WORKPLACE to discuss on the rights to work and employment and equality at workplace for women with disabilities. Representatives from enterprises, enterprise's organizations, BREC's members, DPOs, Trade Unions, Universities and media agencies participate in the dialogue.
