Labour research contest launched with VND100m awards

The initiative which aims to provide an opportunity for strengthening local research capacity on labour issues, especially industrial relations-related topics, opens for submissions from 24 April until 25 June 2018.

HANOI – The Ministry of Labour -- Invalids and Social Affairs and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Viet Nam have launched the 2018 Labour Research Contest with the topic of “Research for exploring Industrial Relations practices and its reflection toward better policies”.

The first initiative of its kind aims to provide an opportunity for strengthening local research capacity on labour issues, especially industrial relations-related topics. The contest focuses on research skills using database and information for analysis and conceptualization. It is also expected to connectresearchers, who produce high-quality labour research with useful and pragmatic findings, with policy-makers who can take advantages of these findings for policy and law development.

The contest accepts both proposals with usage of existing data sets, and those with tailored surveys to explore (but not limited to) one (or more) of the following themes:
  • Theme one – The effect of collective bargaining on wages and working conditions
  • Theme two – Innovative mechanism to settle interest-based labour disputes through mediation
  • Theme three – Linkage between social dialogue and business performance
  • Theme four – Trade union rights in the context of Viet Nam’s trade union reform
  • Theme five – Gender-based discrimination in the workplace
Applicants, who are individuals of Vietnamese nationality or legally operated Vietnamese organizations in form of research teams, shall submit their applications with documents required by Organizers, including: (1) Application Form; (2) Budget Proposal; and (3) Curriculum Vitae.

Applicants shall have opportunities to receive awards up to VND100 million (US$4,400) for two categories namely Grant awards for good research proposals and Grant awards for best papers.

Other terms and conditions as well as instructions for activities in the Contest are provided in Call for Application and other forms which applicants are requested to read and follow strictly.
