    The project, which was launched in Abuja on 29 June 2010, is the initiative of the Nigerian Federal Government, the European Union and the International Labour Organization (ILO) to protect and reintegrate victims of trafficking.

  3. European Parliament seminar on combating and preventing trafficking in human beings: the way forward

    During the seminar, members of European Parliament urged greater emphasis on this issue. As Parliament's rapporteur Anna Hedh said it "is 2010 and women are still sold into slavery - even though slavery was abolished long ago". The Swedish Socialist believes Europe is engaged in an "every day struggle" against it.

  5. Action to combat trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labour exploitation: Identification and protection of victims

    The conference will provide an overview of the results of the “FREED” Project, present the studies on trafficking for labour exploitation and forced labour in Italy and Poland, present the national versions of the handbook for labour inspectors and discuss their application on actual cases, discuss transnational cooperation mechanisms between labour inspectors and law enforcement agencies in source and destination countries, and share ideas about future steps towards an effective response to forced labour and labour exploitation.

    The Independent Trade Union of Construction Complex Workers of Azerbaijan (Inshaat-Ish), the Trade Union of Construction and Construction Materials of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SGIGMBIH), Trade Union Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Republika Srpska (SGSKRS) and the BWI signed a cooperation agreement on the protection of migrant workers’ rights in Eastern Europe

  8. Brazil Expands Technical Cooperation Efforts with the ILO (Interview in Portuguese)

    The government of Brazil has signed a series of agreements with the ILO, Timor Leste, Haiti and the United States as part of its on-going efforts to promote technical cooperation between nations. The agreements include a Joint Declaration on Combating Child Labour, a project on Social Protection, a programme on Forced Labour and Green Jobs, and a programme to strengthen workers’ organizations capacity in Africa. The Brazilian government was represented, among others, by Mr Marco Farani, Director of the Brazilian Agency for Cooperation, ABC, and Mr Carlos Lupi, Minister of Labour and Employment.
