  1. Severe labour exploitation of migrant workers - latest developments in politics and practice

    At the occasion of the World Day of Decent Work on October 7 the DGB Berlin-Brandenburg and the Berlin Alliance to Combat Trafficking for Labour Exploitation (BBGM) are organizing a public event to discuss the latest development in politics and practice with regard to severe labour exploitation of migrant workers in Berlin. BBGM is an initiative involving the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Berlin, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the German Association of Trade Unions, and the Berlin State Department for Labor and Social Affairs.

  2. Residential Programme on the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons in Sri Lanka for State Counsel

    The application of international conventions including human rights instruments and ILO conventions are important tools in the development of national legislation criminal legislation on the prevention of human trafficking. Cognizant of the importance of applying such standards in the prosecution of such cases, the International Labour Organization (ILO) together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) organized a Residential Training Programme for the State Prosecutors of the Attorney General’s Department in Sri Lanka.

  1. Judicial Colloquium on Human Trafficking and Forced Labour for Magistrates

    The programme will include sessions on international labour standards and conventions relating to human trafficking and forced labour, domestic law and amendments on the subject, prosecutions, victims and psychological impact etc. This programme is being developed in consultation with the Ministry of Justice and the Judges Training Institute.

    On 20 and 21 June, The 11th High-level Alliance against Trafficking in Persons conference aims to gain a deeper understanding and to analyse the various interconnected factors that foster the exploitation of people in slavery-like practice. Mr Guy Ryder, Executive Director of the ILO's Standards and Fundamental Rights at Work Department will participate to the session on "Partners in the Alliance Against Trafficking in Persons"

  2. Conference "Preventing Trafficking in Human Beings for Labour Exploitation: Decent Work and Social Justice"

    The 11th High-level Alliance against Trafficking in Persons conference aims to gain a deeper understanding and to analyse the various interconnected factors that foster the exploitation of people in slavery-like practice. The event is split into two segments: Mr Guy Ryder, Executive Director of the Standards and Fundamental Rights at Work Department at the ILO, will participate to the First Segment, which focuses on the added value and challenges of partnership and co-operation to fight trafficking in human beings as a form of modern-day slavery.The Second Segment brings together a variety of actors and experts, to generate exchange of information and expertise coming from very diverse fields, explore innovative ideas to tackle the problem and encourage new partnerships.

  3. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi Appeals to the ILO to Expand its Activities in Myanmar

    Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the former General Secretary of the National League for Democracy in Myanmar, spoke via video message to the delegates of the 100th International Labour Conference of the ILO. She expressed her hope that the ILO would expand its activities in Myanmar and help usher in an era of social justice. The International Labour Organization's current activities in Myanmar include efforts to ensure the elimination of forced labour.

  1. ILO and Georgia to host conference on human trafficking in the Caucasus region

    The International Labour Organization (ILO), its partner agencies and the government of Georgia are to co-host a regional conference in Tbilisi on 18-19 May to forge new partnerships in the fight against trafficking in human beings and forced labour in the Caucasus region.

  2. Sri Lanka: Residential training programme on trafficking and forced labour for police officers

    The programme will take place on 24 and 25 May in Colombo. It will include sessions on investigation methods, interrogation of victims and witnessess, forced labour and human trafficking, leading in of evidence, treatment of victims etc.
