Addis Ababa; Ethiopia; 25 May – The International Labor Organization (ILO) together with the Embassy of Japan in Ethiopia organized an official launching workshop on the project to enhance disaster resilience through employment intensive water works, supported by the Government of Japan, in Jijiga town, Somali regional state, Ethiopia.

Improving access to water and healthcare in East Darfur and West Kordofan: Contractors training kicks off in Sudan

On 21 March 2021, the ILO kicked off a three-week training course for local contractors from the East Darfur and West Kordofan States. The theoretical component of the training, held in Khartoum with a hybrid format of online and in-person lectures, aims to equip local contractors with labour-based and cost-effective construction techniques. These techniques have a significant capacity to absorb community workers in need of livelihood opportunities.

The Government of Japan has contributed US$ 1.1 million to the ILO’s response to enhance disaster resilience through the employment-intensive restoration of waterworks in the city of Jijiga and among refugee-hosting communities of Kebribeyah in the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia.
