    Ministers from some 8 African and 1 Asian countries at the 17th Regional Seminar for Labour Based Practitioners have called on the International Labour Organization (ILO) to support the formulation of employment-intensive investment strategies that support local capacity building initiatives, build vocational training capacity, and establish monitoring and evaluation systems.

    ‘Barefoot engineering’: How to boost rural development and local youth employment

    Shortage of engineers in rural areas has been affecting the quality and effective service delivery of the infrastructure works launched under MGNREGA in India. A training programme, set up by the Ministry of Rural Development with technical assistance of the ILO, addresses the skills gap while providing decent jobs to thousands of discouraged youth and promoting sustainable development in rural areas.

    R4D-SP Capacity Development Workshop: Building the capacity of rural roads sector of Timor-Leste

    The Roads for Development (R4D) Program of Timor-Leste conducted a one-day workshop on 24 August in Dili to discuss the Capacity Development Framework for Phase 2 of the R4D program. More than 100 stakeholders involved in Timor-Leste’s rural roads sector attended to discuss the capacity development needs in the sector.
