The Government of Japan partners with the ILO to support disaster resilience through waterworks restoration in Ethiopia

The Government of Japan has contributed US$ 1.1 million to the ILO’s response to enhance disaster resilience through the employment-intensive restoration of waterworks in the city of Jijiga and among refugee-hosting communities of Kebribeyah in the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia.

Iraq: Jobs and cultural heritage the focus of new ILO-EU-UNESCO collaboration

With support from the European Union, the programme will use employment-intensive approaches to create decent jobs and upgrade skills and employment services for internally displaced persons, Syrian refugees and host community members, while preserving and rehabilitating cultural heritage sites.

How the ILO can support vital public employment programmes during the COVID-19 crisis

Public employment programmes have played an increasingly important role in government responses to the COVID-19 crisis. In this article, Maikel Lieuw-Kie-Song, ILO Specialist on the Employment Intensive Investment Programme (EIIP) sheds light on new, innovative approaches being used to assist countries like Uzbekistan in supporting their PWPs during the pandemic, resulting in temporary work for almost 500,000 women and men in 2020 – nearly twice as many jobs as those created before the pandemic.
