Syrian Arab Republic ratifies the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended (MLC, 2006)

Syria is the 103rd Member State of the ILO to have ratified the Convention

On the 6th of April, the International Labour Office received the instrument of ratification of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended (MLC, 2006) by the Syrian Arab Republic. Syria became the 103rd Member State of the ILO to have ratified the Convention. This ratification represents an important new step towards the universal application of this landmark Convention.

The MLC, 2006 is the fourth pillar of the international regulatory regime for the maritime sector, alongside the three Conventions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), namely the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping (STCW).

The MLC, 2006 will enter into force for the Syrian Arab republic on 6 April 2024, that is one year after its ratification. For further information, please visit the MLC, 2006 webpage.
