Policy-related framework conditions, new business models, and implications of a more radical energy transition

Presenter: Mary Jean Burer, École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne
Chair: Kamal Gueye, ENTERPRISES

The paper explored the conditions for investments in new or transformed business models among energy sector players. Then case studies regarding business models and policy influences were conducted. Extensive data on policies in the energy sector was collected, including carbon pricing policies. Now an energy transition preparedness index is being constructed based on a number of international data sources. Part of this index includes the policy data collected, while another part includes data on entrepreneurship, innovation, liberalization of markets, etc. - other aspects that create the right (or wrong) environment for business model innovation on the country level.
