  1. A blast in the midst of crises: Impact of the Beirut port explosion on the city’s enterprises

    This report presents findings from a study of 1,664 enterprises operating within a five-kilometre radius of the Port of Beirut explosion site, to better understand the impact of the blast on their businesses. The study is based on data from a telephone survey mapping out the characteristics of the enterprises, the impact of the explosion on their operations and labour force, the enterprises’ adaptation and coping measures, as well as the effects and consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on their businesses.

    This report is based on data collected from more than 2,000 Jordanian enterprises in February and March 2021, as well as individual interviews and focus group discussions with representatives from various sectors. It also builds on an earlier survey conducted over a year ago in April/May 2020.

  3. TVET system assessment in Somali and Tigray regional states, Ethiopia, with a focus on inclusiveness

    The report examines the relevant features of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system in terms of access for forcibly displaced people, refugees, women and people with disabilities (PwD), focusing on the Fafan and Degehabur Zones of the Somali Regional State (SRS) and the North- Western Zone of the Tigray Regional State (TRS). It also assesses the capacity of local TVET providers, the state of apprenticeship systems, employment services, and local labour market assessment systems to inform training programmes in the target areas.

  6. Digitally empowering young people in refugee and host communities What is possible? - A mapping study in Kenya

    The mapping study conducted by the ILO aims to inform practitioners in the field, including the programme staff and development partners, in the design and implementation of activities. The study seeks to identify good practices, capture lessons learned, and take note of potential areas of innovation by employers, training and young people themselves with a view to enhancing decent work in the digital economy in Kenya.

  7. Policy Road Map: Recommendations to re-stimulate labour markets in Isingiro and Arua districts of Uganda, following the COVID-19 pandemic

    Following the assessment’s key findings, this Policy Road Map outlines intervention areas where decision-making and policy responses should be considered to ensure inclusive jobs, education, and protection, and serve as potential avenues for ILO and PROSPECTS partners’ future programming.

    The assessment provides an evidence base for the needs of the refugee and host community populations and business enterprises in two locations targeted by PROSPECTS, in order to inform key stakeholders of market-based economic support opportunities and possible short- term, mid-term and long-term adaptations to programming that will allow PROSPECTS to effectively support populations in Isingiro and Arua, Uganda.

  10. Rapid assessment of the impact of COVID-19 on labour markets in Ethiopia: A case study of the Somali and Tigray regions

    Commissioned by the ILO, Samuel Hall, a social enterprise that conducts research in countries affected by issues of migration and displacement, assessed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on displacement-affected labour markets in targeted PROSPECTS intervention areas in the Somali and Tigray regional states, to gather evidence on current local socio-economic environments and inform the design of relevant and context-specific measures.
