BANGKOK (ILO News) - The International Labour Organization (ILO) is holding its 16th Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM), in Bali, Indonesia, from 6-9 December 2016.

The APRM, which is held every four years, is expected to bring together around 450 delegates from more than 40 countries in Asia, the Pacific and the Arab States. National delegations are usually led by a Minister. As well as representatives of the Government each delegation will include workers’ and employers’ organization delegates, so ensuring that discussions reflect the broadest range of issues affecting the region’s economy and labour markets. Policy makers, academics and civil society groups from throughout the region are also likely to attend.

The APRM is expected to be opened by the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo and the ILO's Director-General Mr Guy Ryder.

The APRM agenda will include discussions on creating jobs, employment policies, international labour standards, multi-national enterprises, skills, and labour migration. The conclusions will help to shape the work of the ILO in the region for the next four years, as well as national labour policies.

Discussions will be supported by a new report from the ILO's Director-General that focuses on building inclusive and sustainable development with decent work. A second statistical report provides information on the progress the region has made in the last four years towards achieving decent work for all.

The media are welcome to cover the APRM. Full details of the meeting and how to register can be found at www.ilo.org/aprm2016.

Media accreditation is restricted to representatives of bona fide news organizations. All accreditation to the 16th APRM is at the discretion of the ILO.
