  1. Global Child Labour Conference, The Hague, 10-11 May 2010

    The year 2010 is 10 years after the coming into force of ILO Convention No. 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour (WFCL). Efforts must be stepped up if we are to deliver the commitment of a world free of the WFCL by 2016. In order to meet that challenge, the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, in close collaboration with the ILO (and UNICEF and World Bank), is organizing a global conference on child labour to be held in The Hague (The Netherlands) on 10 and 11 May 2010.

It highlights technological advance, emerging workplace risks, and changing patterns of employment and workforce and thus, the need for new preventive approaches in facing these new challenges.

  1. Upskilling Out of the Downturn: Global Dialogue Forum on Strategies for Sectoral Training and Employment Security

    Government, employer and worker representatives from over 30 countries will discuss future skills needs across different sectors of the economy and propose strategies to support employment security, and enhance business productivity and competitiveness in the aftermath of the global economic and social crisis. The Forum will contribute to ILO's training strategy to ensure a durable economic recovery.

  3. Lecture on "The Declaration of Philadelphia Today"

    Members of the Governing Body and ILO staff are invited to a lecture by Professor Alain Supiot, Director of the Nantes Institute for Advance Studies. Professor Supiot will talk of the relevance that the Declaration of Philadelphia holds today, and why it remains a powerful text in the pursuit of social justice. Interpretation will be provided into English, French and Spanish.

  4. Overcoming the Jobs Crisis: what do we know about experiences that work?

    Following the Working Party on the Social Dimension of Globalization of the ILO Governing Body, a seminar organized by the International Institute for Labour Studies (IILS) debated policies which provide the most effective way out of the jobs crisis and draw lessons with regard to the implementation of the Global Jobs Pact.

  5. Seminar on "Overcoming the jobs crisis"

    On the initiative of the Governments of Brazil and France, the International Institute for Labour Studies (IILS) is organizing a seminar to (i) debate policies which provide the most effective way out of the jobs crisis and (ii) draw lessons in terms of implementation of the Global Jobs Pact. Mr Bruno Coquet, Ministry of Finance, France, Chairperson of the Employment Committee, Council of the European Union (EMCO)) and Mr Marcio Pochman, Director of the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA), Brazil, will address the seminar. Representatives of the social partners, as well as experts from Egypt, Germany and the Republic of Korea, have also been invited to contribute to the debate, which will be followed by questions from the floor.
