Upskilling Out of the Downturn: Global Dialogue Forum on Strategies for Sectoral Training and Employment Security

Government, employer and worker representatives from over 30 countries will discuss future skills needs across different sectors of the economy and propose strategies to support employment security, and enhance business productivity and competitiveness in the aftermath of the global economic and social crisis. The Forum will contribute to ILO's training strategy to ensure a durable economic recovery.

Panel Discussions

The two-day discussions will provide a platform for ILO's constituents to exchange perspectives and experiences in the implementation of sector-specific skills development and training strategies and policies. Interventions are expected to emphasize concrete examples at firm, industry and national levels, where better skills and training have enabled sustainable and balanced growth. Each session aims to identify how different practices work, the role of ILO’s constituents, and the conditions that helped to achieve desired results. As participants are drawn from different economic sectors, the exchange will help to identify the similarities and disparities across sectors, and also the specific elements that need to be considered in the design of broad training and skills development policies and strategies.

Participation

The Meeting will be composed of ten Employer participants, ten Worker participants and representatives of all interested Governments. In addition, participants from intergovernmental and invited non-governmental organizations may attend.

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in appropriate languages, in accordance with the participation at the meeting.
