Launch of the project “Youth Employment through Local Economic Development in Quang Nam"

Designed to create lasting results in Quang Nam, this project focuses on creating an improved business environment, skills development and enhanced competitiveness of selected value chains to stimulate employment opportunities.

The Project “Youth Employment through Local Economic Development in Quang Nam” was launched in the province of Quang Nam in Central Vietnam on the 17 May 2010.

Rie Vejs-Kjeldgaard, Director of ILO Viet Nam and Tran Van Ca, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committe at the launch] The Country Director of the ILO Vietnam, Ms Rie Vejs-Kjeldgaard, and, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee, Mr Tran Minh Ca, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation and the Project Management Board was established.

All key partners attended the ceremony, including representatives of the People's Committee, representatives of the line departments that will be involved in the project, including Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Department of Planning and Investment, Department of Industry and Trade and Department of Agriculture. Also the districts that will be involved in the implementation were represented as well as mass organizations and representatives from the private sector and business organizations.

It was expressed from both the partners and from the ILO that there are high expectations to the project. Firstly, because the project designed to create lasting results in Quang Nam in terms of business environment improvements, skills development and enhanced competitiveness of selected value chains to stimulate employment opportunities. Secondly, the project is a demonstration model for local economic development and should deliver lessons learned and best practice for the inspiration of other provinces in Vietnam that want to stimulate local economic development.
