ILO Governing Body calls for “integrated ILO strategy” to address decent work deficits in the tobacco sector

The ILO Governing Body has asked the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to present a strategy to address decent work deficits in the tobacco sector to be presented in March 2018.

GENEVA (ILO News) – The ILO Governing Body has adopted the following decision related to the UN agency’s cooperation with the tobacco industry:

“The Governing Body calls on the Director-General, taking into account all views expressed in the current session, to present to the 332nd session of the Governing Body in March 2018 an integrated ILO strategy to address decent work deficits in the tobacco sector.”

The ILO receives funding from the tobacco industry for programmes focussed on the elimination of child labour. The most recent agreement will end in June 2018.
