This poses real challenges to meeting the 2030 agenda target of eliminating poverty in fifteen years. Torres went on to say that the rich also need to be involved in facing up to their responsibility in the perpetuation of poverty.

    Women have seen great strides in their participation in education globally, but this hasn't translated into labour markets, says Lawrence Jeff Johnson, Deputy director of the ILO's Research Department in an interview with the BBC. Along with policies that promote women in the world of work, more needs to be done to address women's lack of social protection, including access to pensions.
