Asia-Pacific Countries to discuss extending social security coverage

The International Labour Organization in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, is hosting a high level tripartite Asia-Pacific meeting on Socially-Inclusive Strategies to Extend Social Security Coverage, in New Delhi. The two-day meeting, to be held at Vigyan Bhawan on 19-20 May 2008, will be opened by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Government of India, Mr. Oscar Fernandes on Monday 19 May 2008 at 0930 hrs.

Chair's Conclusions from the G8 Labour and Employment Meeting

Launch of a new UN System-wide workplace programme on HIV

HIV is having a serious impact not just on our work, but also in our workplace. Absences, illnesses and deaths due to HIV and AIDS have profound implications for staff, their families, and for the UN. Even in countries where HIV is less visible, the UN has an obligation to act. A New UN System-wide Workplace Programme HIV entitled UN Cares has been developed to reduce the impact of HIV in the workplace by supporting "universal access" to a comprehensive range of benefits for all UN personnel and their families - including prevention, treatment, care and support.
