At the request of Department of Labour (DoL) of South Africa, LAB/ADMIN provided technical assistance on the implementation of a performance management system in the DoL and its two key branches, Labour Inspection and Enforcement and Public Employment Services.Recommendations of an independent academic study were also discussed during this national workshop.

To support the government's efforts to implement Presidential Decree No. 21 of 2010 and improve coordination between labour inspectors and other stakeholders, LAB/ADMIN in partnership with the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration and ILO Jakarta organized this high level tripartite dialogue.

Needs Assessment Workshop on Training for Labour Inspectors in Cambodia.

In cooperation with the ILO's Better Factories Cambodia project, Maria Luz Vega and René Robert from LAB/ADMIN facilitated a one day workshop during which participants (labour inspectors and managers) carried out group exercises to assess and prioritize the training needs of labour inspectors in the country.

Needs assessment of the Namibia Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare

Ludek Rychly, (ILO Geneva) and Limpho Mandoro (ILO Pretoria) carried out a needs assessment of Namibia's Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, holding consultations with government officials from across the country and offering preliminary recommendations on how to strengthen the effectiveness of its institutions and staff. The information gathered during the mission and the findings and recommendations of the experts will be published in a report to be shared with the government.

29th National Meeting of the Brazilian Association of Labour Inspectors

In keeping with the close collaboration between the ILO and the Brazilian Labour Inspection Secretary of the Ministry of Employment, LAB/ADMIN officials Giuseppe Casale (Director) and Maria Luz Vega (Senior Specialist) were invited to be special guests on an international panel for the 29th national meeting of the Brazilian labour inspectors where they discussed the issue of labour inspector training.

Regional consultation meeting: Good practises in labour administration and inspection in the Americas
27 April 2011
In June 2010, the ILO's Governing Body put an item for general discussion on the agenda of the upcoming 100th Session of the International Labour Conference dealing with labour administration and labour inspection. It invited the Office to prepare an initial document to orient governments and the social partners on the development and structure of the eventual ILC Report. It decided that the Conference Report should provide general information on good practices in labour administration and labour inspection to enrich the June 2011 general discussion.
