Management and Reform Portfolio (DDG/MR)

The Management and Reform portfolio consists of the Office of the Deputy Director-General (DDG/MR) and the six departments listed opposite, plus the Department of Communications. The Building Renovation Project and the ILO Office in Myanmar report directly to the DDG/MR, as do the Joint Advisory Appeals Board Secretariat and the Mediator.

The Portfolio's main roles and functions are:
  • to review and adapt institutional practices within the Portfolio to support implementation of the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization and the Director-General's Reform Agenda;
  • to ensure greater coordination and synergies between its seven departments in relation to policy implementation, decision-making and delivery of services;
  • to promote and support a more strategic approach to Office-wide management and administration issues;
  • to continuously improve the efficiency and quality of support services;
  • to provide more integrated support to the main bodies responsible for management and administration of the Organization, namely, the Governing Body and the International Labour Conference;
  • to promote best practices and knowledge-sharing at management level, as well as a more practical approach to managing change and problem-solving; and
  • to advance accountability and transparency in the operations of the Office.
