The Republic of Moldova (Moldova, henceforth) has experienced a remarkable change over the last 15 years. The period of economic transition started in 1991, when
Moldova became an independent state, following the disintegration of the Soviet Union.
Moldova’s independence was soon recognized abroad and the country has since become a member of number of multilateral organizations such as the UN, the IMF, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
