Based on trends from 1960 to 1990, considers a number of key elements of the East Asian development model with a view to assessing the replicability of this experience in the context of rural South Asia. Suggests policy options for the regeneration of dynamic and sustainable growth processes. Emphasizes the role of agriculture in this context.
