  1. Academy on Sustainable Enterprise Development

    18 - 29 June 2012

    A two-week programme combining master classes and a range of elective workshops. This year the Academy will focus on: (I) policy design and implementation of experiences to create a favourable environment for sustainable enterprise and employment, (II) products and services for enterprise development and the promotion of better working conditions, (III) systemic approaches for sectorial enterprise development through value chains and business service markets.

    The United Nations General Assembly has declared 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives, highlighting the contribution of cooperatives to socio-economic development, particularly their impact on poverty reduction, employment generation and social integration. With the theme of “Cooperative Enterprises Build a Better World”, the Year seeks to encourage the growth and establishment of cooperatives all over the world. All U.N. Member States are invited to participate in an informal roundtable and in the afternoon plenary at the UN General Assembly Hall on Monday, 31 October 2011.

At the end of the conference, UN-Water issued a draft best practice guide to actions, instruments and policies to progress towards a green economy for sustainable development and poverty eradication. The ILO participated and contributed to the conference.
