Multinational enterprises play an increasingly important role in today’s globalized economy. The Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (MNE Declaration) aims at maximizing the positive contribution of MNEs to socio economic development and resolving possible negative impacts. It stimulates dialogue at the national level between government, employers’ and workers’ organizations, and MNEs as the way forward to identify opportunities and address challenges linked to foreign direct investment and MNE activities.

To enhance the effective promotion of the MNE Declaration and uptake of its principles, the Governing Body adopted a new follow-up mechanism in March 2014.

The session will provide information on this newly adopted follow-up mechanism to the MNE Declaration, the new tool “Business and Decent Work: An introduction to the MNE Declaration” and country level experiences in promoting the MNE Declaration. Deputy Director-General for Policy, Sandra Polaski, will open the event followed by a tripartite panel discussion.

The session is open for all ILC 2014 participants.
Interpretation will be provided into English, French and Spanish.
