II World Forum of Local Economic Development

The II World Forum of Local Economic Development - Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil - aims to facilitate dialogue and exchanges between local, national and international actors on the efficiency and impact of local economic development in tackling current challenges.

In this II World forum, the role of the private sector in local economic development will be addressed as part of the theme “Local Development Economic Strategies: the great challenges”.

The ILO Tripartite Declaration concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (ILO MNE Declaration) aims to maximize the positive contribution of business to socio economic development and facilitate the alignment of private sector activities with national development priorities. During the Forum, the Multinational Enterprises and Enterprises Engagement unit will participate in a panel that will explore the linkages between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and local economic development, and in a panel on public-private partnerships for local economic development.

Ms Nydia Neer, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Labour of Argentina, will highlight in this panel how enterprises (foreign and national) have been contributing to national development and decent work priorities in Argentina through a network established by the Ministry of Labour to give effect to the recommendations of the MNE Declaration and its positive impact on Local Economic Development in Argentina.

Ms Annie van Klaveren, Technical Officer in the Multinational Enterprises and Enterprises Engagement unit will speak on the role of tripartite plus dialogue in the promotion of local development and the alignment of private sector activity with local priorities for development.
