Circunstancias: | The crew contacted ITF in June 2006. They had not been paid since January, were running out of supplies and wanted to go home. The original owners (Cargo Logistics USA) renounced responsibility claiming to have sold the vessel in 2004 to another company (HPS Trading Corp), however connections between executives in both companies would suggest that there was no genuine change of ownership. The company¿s representative (who did not change after the apparent sale) refused to supply provisions, wages or any form of assistance. The crew were forced to subsist through the charity of other Filipino seafarers, the Filipino community in the Bahamas. Assistance was also provided by the Philippines Consulate in Washington and the manning agent (Crewlink) who subsequently funded the crews¿ repatriation. |
