    These Regulations made pursuant to the Employment Act, 1990 entitle female workers to 10 weeks paid maternity leave of which not less than 8 weeks should be taken after the date of confinement, and 4 weeks unpaid maternity leave to be taken either before or after paid maternity leave.

    Under the Employment Act 1990, these Regulations modify the Conditions of Employment Regulations 1991, changing "paid maternity leave" in Reg.16(1) to "unpaid maternity leave," and substituting "1 1/2 hours pay" for "1 hours' pay" wherever it occurs in Reg.6(2).
