These Regulations, under the authority of section 77(1) of the Central Provident Fund Act, limit the prescribed amount under section 16 of the Act to $10000 in general, and to $5000 for public officers also receiving a pension under either the Pensions Act or the Singapore Armed Forces Pensions Regulations 1978. The Central Provident Fund (Prescribed Amount for Medisave Account) Regulations 1991 are revoked.

Under the authority of section 77(1)(l) of the Central Provident Fund Act (Ch. 36) amendments are made to the Central Provident Fund (Medisave Account withdrawals) Regulations 1988 concerning the use of Medisave account funds of unconscious patients, and their use for eye treatment. The Central Provident Fund Board is empowered to authorise the withdrawal of future contributions to pay for hospitalisation expenses.
